Emmitt
Smith was one of the top recruited running backs
in high school by college recruiters in 1986. As
signing day gets closer the front runners are
thought to be Auburn, Nebraska and the
University of Florida, but Emmitt won't state a
preference before signing day. |

On signing day,
Emmitt walked in the gym wearing a red shirt and
cap to sign in front of a packed school
assembly. Everyone thought he was going to sign
with Nebraska. With a big smile, Emmitt sign's
with the University of Florida and is promised
to start the first game of the 1987 season.
Emmitt's promise was broken and he didn't get to
start until the third game against Alabama where
he set the new University of Florida Gators
Rushing Record with 224 yards. After 7 games
Emmitt proved he was a great Running Back.
Emmitt became the first player to rush for
a 1,000 yards in just 7 games in all of college
football history. Funny that the player to hold
the 8 game 1,000 yard rushing record was Tony
Dorsett. |
